Books

I am flying solo this month while Len and Dena are at their winter home in Arizona. As I am writing Len is probably swinging his 5 wood and Dena is hiking on the trails in their backyard taking many nature photographs.

I have a few personal recommendations this Valentines month that you may find of interest.

WHAT IS SELF... is the latest hot non duality book, written by a former cloistered nun. She writes from the Christian perspective and gives a nice balance to previous titles on this subject that tend to emphasis eastern shadowing. Her views on the inherent differences between eastern and western views are very thought provoking. Her previous book EXPERIENCE OF NO SELF has been a constant seller at our store.

OM MA Anandamayi Ma is a wonderful new little book on the life of the great woman saint. At $5.00 it would make a thoughtful and inexpensive Valentine’s Day gift.

I am in the process of reading Plan B Further Thoughts on Faith, by Anne Lamott., which is a wise irreverent meditation on life, single parenting, Christianity, George Bush, intimate relationships and the pains of every day living. Lamott’s words heal the reader just as Anne heals her own shadows through the writing of her most intimate thoughts. I most highly recommend this to anyone who is attracted to down to earth spiritual musing. This book I assure you will bring the divine gifts of laughter and tears.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day by local author Hartley C. Bishop is a wonderful book for women on the joys and hardships of dating: INSPIRED DATING: What Every Woman Needs to Know. “Practical down to earth advice that can help shape your single years and carry your heart to its goal. This book is for all ladies, young and mature, who wish to have a higher level of life in true, honest, and lasting romantic love.”

David Hawkins (Author of Power versus Force) newest book Transcending the Levels of Consciousness has just come in. His previous 4 titles on higher states of consciousness are constant 21st Century Books bestsellers.

A quick reminder: THE WHOLE THING THE REAL THING will be on sale until Feb 18th for $5.00 each.

We have just received a new shipment from India of FIRE FROM HEAVEN ... this is a must read book for any spiritual aspirant... please check our last newsletter (Jan 2006) for Len’s commentary on this important book.

So this is February. Christmas is fast becoming a memory.. Winter is slowly reaching the late mode and spring and light will soon beckon to us. We have released the green of the holidays and have retained the red for our sweet Valentines.

When I was a teenager love was experienced as a sickness (love sick).
I had terrible overdrive emotions and the feelings inside were mysterious and over whelming... causing loss of appetite, laying around in bed in an altered daze, writing silly teenage poetry. The woman of the moment would consume my waking day thoughts until... A few weeks would pass and inevitable disappointment would set in. I was soon on to my next big love ... unfulfilled by the previous love, knowing with certainty the current one was absolutely the one.

You are probably now aware where I am going with this…

Looking back now I realize I was not lovesick but sick for true love.

Not the specks of fluttering tinsel but the true all encompassing sea. Not this but That was the lack, the lack that was being experienced. Love is inside us always. It is who we truly are. A person or experience may awaken it from its dormant state... but the experience always comes from within us. Always inside us and when we experience That we love all without expectations or disappointments including even ourselves.

“If only you could see how heaven pulls earth into its arms and how infinitely the heart expands to claim this world” Lisel Mueller

Happy February and may you rest in the arms of your beloved self.

Tony
