Books

Happy New Year everyone! We hope 2006 will bring everyone joy, fulfillment, good health, and prosperity. We hope our little bookstore and the books we discover and recommend will in some small way contribute to a better 2006 for everyone.

It is fun for me to be really enthusiastic about recommending books that I have recently read and which I think others might really enjoy and get excited about. Happily I have two books I am recommending in this newsletter that fit the bill.

The first is Where God Lives: The Science of the Paranormal and How Our Brains are Linked to the Universe, by Melvin Morse, M.D., with Paul Perry. Dr. Morse practices pediatric medicine in Seattle. Early in his career he encountered a remarkable case of the recovery of a child who had a Near Death Experience (NDE). Since then Dr. Morse has treated numerous children who have recovered and experienced NDE’s, and he has done extensive follow ups on their lives and studies on the neurophysiology accompanying these phenomena. His studies have led him to conclude that there is an area of the brain (the right frontal lobe) which is associated with “spiritual” experiences and which may be the link between body, mind, spirit, God, and the universal mind.

This book will thrill people who view themselves as “spiritual beings.” The book will also appeal to the scientists and materialists who view things from the opposite perspective. Where God Lives is short and very sweet, filled with just enough anecdotes and scientific references to make it riveting and fun to read.

I enthusiastically recommend this book to everyone!

If you have interest at all in the topic of, or concept of “enlightenment”, the Fire from Heaven: Dawn of Golden Age, by Kiara Windrider, is a book you cannot live without!
Windrider, a licensed psychotherapist, spiritual teacher, and author relates the story of how he and others have become enlightened by the grace of a being they call an avatar, who lives in South India, and who was known as Kalki, but is now called simply Bhagavan.

Bhagavan’s basic teaching is that enlightenment can be received as a gift through a simple, neurobiological shift within the brain. The process of this energy transfer and shift in the neurophysiology of the brain is called “Diksha” or “Deeksha”, depending upon the US or Indian spelling.

The book is not only interesting because it lays out Bhagavan’s theories and describes his practices, but Windrider and four or five others give first person accounts of their experiences of enlightenment. These accounts are very credible and quite compelling.

Whether or not Diksha will sweep the world and enlighten the planet only time will tell. On the other hand, numerous serious spiritual seekers are jumping on this bandwagon and that means it is a movement that every seeker ought to know about.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and believe that the views espoused and experiences related make this a terrific read for anyone who has ever been or thought of becoming a “seeker of enlightenment”.

I want to look back and re-recommend the best books I read in 2005. Just click on the title and you can get to our review. Shantaram was the best novel of the year, and perhaps of the last 5 or 10 years. The Synchronized Universe was a book that fulfilled a lot my reading desires—finally a credible scientist gathers data and comments on significant events and data about the paranormal. India: Mirror of Truth is a contemporary version of Autobiography of a Yogi, or My Search In Secret India, two of my all time favorite books.

Cave in the Snow was clearly one of the most remarkable and memorable books I have ever read. Women especially ought to read this one. The Holographic Universe is another of the timeless treasures that readers ought to enjoy over and over again as it will certainly provide deep understanding and many “aha” experiences.

For those interested in the world of finances and related matters, two books really stood out for me. They are: Just One Thing, and Fooled by Randomness.

Winter is a great time to curl up with a good book. I hope that many of you will curl up with and enjoy some of the abovementioned selections. I hope 2006 will be year of fulfillment and happiness for all.

Finally, we welcome your feedback and recommendations. Please keep the emails coming.

Happy New Year.

I have news that some of you may enjoy.

SAGE OF A NEW GENERATION the classic film of the TM movement during the 60’s is now on DVD. The DVD version has many precious still photos of Maharishi taken during that time period.

Also on the DVD format and not on VHS is a telling of the history of the movement by Maharishi. This is a must have even if you own the VHS format. We are offering special pricing of 25.00 for the next few weeks.

Speaking of movement items, the biography of Guru Dev WHOLE THING THE REAL THING was going out of print in India... the publisher informed us if we ordered 500 copies they would reprint the books, so now we need to cut our inventory to a reasonable quantity. For the next 5 weeks we will be offering this inspiring book at practically our cost $5.00 . This will be a great buy for you as well as help on the stock situation for us—a win win.

A new book on Advaita (non- duality) LIVING REALITY has just been published by James Braha. James as many of you know wrote the first book by a westerner on Jyotish—ANCIENT HINDU ASTROLOGY FOR THE MODERN WESTERN ASTROLOGER… James has recently spent 5 weeks with Sailor Bob (author of WHAT’S WRONG WITH RIGHT NOW UNLESS YOU THINK ABOUT IT) this book is a journal of that experience. It a great addition to the growing library of books on non- duality.

Another title on the subject of non-duality I highly recommend is ALREADY AWAKE by Nathan Gill. I am reading this title and the concepts ring a truth in me that has made definite changes in my perception.

A few random thoughts on this New Year

During the 1970’s when I was in my 20’s I felt I would be young forever.

Within me I knew I had knowledge of a secret few others knew.

I felt there will always be time to redeem oneself of actions taken.

Now it is 2006. The secret I now know is just simple awareness. a secret that is shared by everyone.

Actions taken have led me to where I am today. And is redemption even necessary?

As for the youth, my hair has turned gray. I use reading glasses and people in their 30’s call me sir. I am now part of the older generation.

On this New Year I wish you a loss of regrets, acceptance of what is and peace in knowing that all is well.
